Birthdays and Christmas and Greed

Short Stack's birthday is the 15th of December. He was due the 30th of November, but that's beside the point.

Every year, we have the discussion whether we want to celebrate on his actual natal day, or if we want to postpone until after the holidays...and we always end up doing both.

Somehow, The Dearests think this saves money. :)

This year, we just had a simple dinner at Red Robin (which involved the birthday song and Short Stack asking if they'd sing it again...and them singing it for him 3 times) and opened presents.

He made out pretty well, 2 video games, a Spy Gear kit (with fingerprint kit, so now he'll know if I touch his stuff) and a board game. He opened all of them and then was looking around....he wanted to know where the rest of his presents were.

I explained there were no more and that what he got was super cool...that seemed to do the trick. (I have long since abandoned the "some kids don't get anything" bit, as he lives in a place where children routinely get jetskis and such for birthdays.)

We did purchase a few gifts for Toys for Tots....When he gets a little bigger, we'll be volunteering for some local charities.

How do you handle greed in your family?
